OL Spencer claimed off waivers

Two days before the Panthers convene for training camp, they added a recent first-day draft pick to their offensive line, claiming former Texans tackle Charles Spencer off waivers. Spencer broke into the league as a third-round pick of Houston in 2006. To make room, the Panthers released offensive lineman Reuben Riley, who spent the entire 2007 season on Carolina's practice squad.

The Panthers have signed third-round draft choice Charles Godfrey, a safety from Iowa, and seventh-round draft choice Geoff Schwartz, an offensive tackle from Oregon.
